Capacity and flow range

Flow rate is the first specification everyone compares and the one that misleads most. A generator has no single capacity: where you land depends on the concentration it must hold. The same NanOxy Pro is rated 18.9 m³/h at 40 mg/L, 37.8 m³/h at 20 mg/L and 75.6 m³/h at 10 mg/L — one unit, three very different duty points. So make every vendor state flow and delivered concentration as a pair. Quotations that look far apart are usually written at different duty points.

The NanoMAR envelope

The S2 lets a laboratory produce repeatable data before anyone specifies a plant. The S1 membrane platform scales from that research work into full industrial service, fed with compressed gas and with no electrical connection at the module. The M Pro is the pilot platform, the Pro the skid-mounted aquaculture unit, and the NanVANN Pro a wastewater unit for TSS and TOC reduction with TAN management. Bubble generation method

Both companies sell equipment that does the same physical work: shear a gas into water until it breaks into cavities under 200 nm. Below that threshold a bubble stops behaving like a bubble. It barely rises, so it stays suspended for days to weeks rather than seconds, and it carries a strong negative zeta potential — the charge that lifts contaminants.

Three ways to shear a gas

Membrane. Gas is pushed through a precision pore structure into flowing water, giving the tightest and most repeatable size distribution. The price of that precision is sensitivity: it wants pre-filtered water, and compressed gas.

Venturi. A constriction drops the pressure and the shear breaks gas into the stream. No moving parts, tolerant of dirtier water. The energy is not free: it lives in the pump curve.

Ceramic. Gas passes through a rigid porous element. Where water is abrasive enough to shorten polymer life, ceramic answers it. Elements cost more, and back-pressure climbs as pores load.

No single method suits every water, and a manufacturer with one method must argue that its method suits yours. Ask any supplier for the method by name and the distribution it produces; "nanobubbles" alone says nothing about fouling or service intervals. Energy per kg O2

Comparing generators on installed kilowatts is the standard mistake here, and it rewards the wrong machine. Operating cost is governed by energy per kilogram of gas actually transferred into the water. A unit that draws less power while losing much of its gas above the tank costs more to run.

Bubble size decides that split. A coarse diffuser bubble has seconds of contact time and a small interface relative to its volume, so much of the gas leaves unused at the surface. A cavity under 200 nm is effectively neutrally buoyant with an enormous gas–liquid interface, so transfer approaches completion. NanoMAR's published figure is 40 %+ higher oxygen transfer. No energy percentage is published, and we will not invent one.

  • Your conditions, not the bench. Efficiency from a clean-water test at standard temperature is not what you will live with. Ask at your temperature and organic load.
  • Price the gas separately. Oxygen bought or generated is usually a larger line than the generator's own draw.
  • One duty point. Restate both vendors' figures at the same concentration before comparing; our oxygen transfer calculator gives that basis.

European presence and lead time

Here the two companies genuinely differ, and it deserves precision rather than a wave at "local support". NanoMAR sits at Langenesvegen 34, 5258 Blomsterdalen, outside Bergen — road distance from much of Norway's land-based aquaculture, and inside the EEA for equipment, spares and service. A membrane replacement is a courier movement, not a customs event, and a bad summer is reviewed by the people who specified the unit.

On lead time, honestly

NanoMAR publishes no delivery times, for the same reason it publishes no prices: the same model leaves on very different schedules depending on what is specified around it. What we can say is which decisions move the date.

  • Gas package. Air needs nothing upstream. Oxygen means a generator, a tank or a contract, and that procurement usually sets the critical path.
  • Control integration. Local control is quicker than handing setpoints to an existing SCADA.

Moleaer publishes its own international coverage; outside Europe, check that source first. Inside it, ask a nanobubble supplier in Europe for specifics and you will get them.

Price transparency

No page on nanomar.no carries a price. That is policy rather than evasion: NanoMAR quotes per installation because the same model lands at very different totals depending on duty. What we will do — and what you should demand of every vendor — is name the variables that move the number.

  • Delivered concentration. The largest lever, and the one most often left out. A unit specified at 40 mg/L moves a fraction of the flow it would at 10 mg/L.
  • Gas supply. Air costs nothing to source; oxygen brings a generator, tank or contract that often outweighs the machine.
  • Separation stage. Membrane, venturi or ceramic. The water chemistry decides, and it carries consumables as well as capital.
  • Retrofit or new build. Interfaces into an existing plant are where budgets are lost.
  • Instrumentation. Monitoring, interlocks and SCADA integration are real line items, and the first to vanish from a cheaper quote.

Where Moleaer is the better fit

A comparison that finds no case for the other side is a sales page pretending to be an analysis. Here is where Moleaer is the stronger choice.

  • You need published references today. Moleaer publishes case studies openly. NanoMAR has none yet: founded in 2023, pilots running, results published as they complete. If procurement scores references, that is a real advantage to them.
  • Your site is outside Europe. NanoMAR engineering, service and spares run from Bergen. For a plant in the Americas or Asia-Pacific, weigh Moleaer's published coverage against ours: proximity beats a datasheet line.
  • You are buying inside an existing framework. Where a group has standardised on a supplier, adding a second vendor can cost more than the preference is worth.
  • Your duty falls outside the NanoMAR envelope. Our models cover 2 lpm on the S2 to 1 000 m³/h on the S1 membrane platform. Outside that, we would rather say so than stretch one.

    Write the duty point down first

    Flow, target concentration, temperature range, solids and organic load — the worst case, not the average. Every vendor then answers one question.

    Make each vendor restate their figures at it

    Not headline capacity, but delivered performance at your conditions with the gas supply you will have.

  3. 03

    Cost the whole life

    Energy per kilogram transferred, consumables, element replacement, and what a failure costs in biomass or discharge consent.

  4. 04

    Pilot on your own water

    Run the trial on the real stream, in the season that worries you. A pilot turns a claim into your own data.

Put the same question to every supplier: at my flow, at my temperature, at my target concentration, what dissolved oxygen will I hold at the far end of the tank? Anyone who answers with a bubble-size claim has not answered it.
